Stephanie S. Cargill, PhD, is an associate professor of health care ethics, with a focus on research ethics, at Saint Louis University (SLU). Dr. Cargill theoretically and empirically explores the ethical issues that face vulnerable research populations and communities, as well as the broader issues surrounding the relationship between research, research oversight, and the public. She employs theoretical, qualitative, community-engaged, and public deliberation methods in her research. In addition, for the last seven years, she has designed the curriculum for SLU’s university-wide Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Program, as well as served as the designer and instructor of Washington University, St. Louis’ Clinical Research Training Center’s RCR course. She also has secondary appointments in the School of Public Health and Social Justice, as well as Washington University, St. Louis’ School of Medicine. She is also the chair of Castle IRB, a private IRB that specializes in gene and cell therapy research oversight.
