Ellen Marakowitz, PhD, is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at Columbia University. She has been a scientific member of Columbia's Institutional Review Board for over ten years, including at one point serving as interim chair. As Director of the MA Program in Anthroplogy, Ellen advises MA students about their research with human subjects and the submission of research protocols. In the Anthropology Department, Ellen also works with doctoral students and fellow faculty members with these issues. Ellen has a particular interest in the ways in which anthropology, as a discipline, through the ethical guidlenes of the American Anthropological Association intersects with human subjects protections.
