Joel Seah is an incoming PhD candidate at the Centre for Biomedical Ethics, National University of Singapore.
Joel's experience in human research protections spans 7 years; he has served in diverse role including: IRB Analyst with a major national hospital cluster, IRB Manager in a small SBER-focused university, and leading & mentoring the IRB team at a large STEM-centric university where he also conducted IRB education and trainings. He has served as Secretariat for the Bioethics Advisory Committee (Singapore), and some experience as Compliance Monitor auditing human subjects research.
He is a member of the Consortium to Advance Effective Research Ethics Oversight (www.aereo.org), and on the advisory board for the Human Research Protections Clubhouse (hosted by SUNY Downstate) – a platform for networking & empowering HRPP/IRB professionals at all levels in the human research enterprise.
His latest interest is in generative AI, including how LLMs can effectively support HRPPs and research as a co-pilot. Beyond work, Joel enjoys seeking out specialty coffee, running, and playing the guitar.
