Leslie Howes, Managing Director of the Office of Human Research Administration, is responsible for the review, approval and oversight of human research studies conducted at Harvard Longwood Medical Area (LMA) Schools, including Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Harvard Medical School, and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Leslie ensures ethical conduct and compliance with applicable federal regulations, state laws, and institutional policies governing human subject research. She is responsible for regularly evaluating the Harvard LMA Human Research Protection Program; ensuring AAHRPP accreditation remains in good standing; and overseeing the Quality Improvement Program (QIP), including its educational initiatives for the LMA research community. Prior to this role, Leslie served as the QIP Director in which she conducted domestic and international routine on-site reviews of Harvard LMA IRB-approved studies, and worked directly with investigators and their study staff to facilitate research through a variety of support services, such as IRB submission assistance, study consultation, and external audit preparation. Leslie earned her Certification of IRB Professionals (CIP) designation in 2004. She received her BS in Neuroscience from Bates College and her MPH from Tufts University School of Medicine.
