This session will be offered on-demand only for in-person PRIMR23 attendees registered for this day, and PRIMR23/SBER23 Virtual Meeting registrants; there is no live interaction. Although this session is on-demand, speakers will be holding virtual office hours to answer questions about the presentation on December 7 at 12:30 PM ET. Anyone interested should email the speakers to receive the Zoom login information.

As the saying goes, “Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.” This presentation will focus on existing research public education efforts initiated by universities and biotech organizations that have paid significant dividends when it comes to better informing the public about research involving nonhuman animals.

Learning Objectives:

  • Hear about a variety of efforts employed by both private and public research organizations to improve public understanding about the need for health studies in animals
  • Discuss how expanded communications and messaging can assist in several venues (e.g., websites, other public communications, legislative materials, etc.)
  • Explore why some institutions decided to expand communications about animal studies, along with the benefits of doing so
  • Consider the challenges in seeking institutional approvals for these efforts, and specific strategies to get organizational buy-in on the value of expanded communications
