Lisa Rigtrup is an accomplished mentor, speaker, project manager, and leader in the research ethics community, known for delivering high-energy presentations that challenge audiences to consider how complex ethical issues affect everyday life. With a background in psychology, management, and research design, her career expands over several industries including project and operations management, leadership, marketing and communications, and website architecture. Lisa worked her way up from an entry-level position at the University of Utah in 2005 to earn her seat at some of the most influential tables at the institution.
Lisa is currently an Operations Manager at the University of Utah Institutional Review Board (IRB), where she leads the SIRB Reliance Team. Lisa is a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) and has also earned certifications for Web Design and Management. She is passionate about advocating for positive change for her community and mentoring colleagues in research ethics and leadership, and currently serves on the University’s Staff Council as Immediate Past-President, representing over 35,000 staff employed by the institution, as Co-Chair of the Public Safety Advisory Council (PSAC), and as Senior Chair of Public Relations & Marketing for the Utah Higher Education Staff Association (UHESA).
Lisa is interested in how to increase community awareness of human subject research ethics using avenues that are fun and interesting. Lisa also enjoys spending time with her partner, her many pets, gardening, watching TikToks about cute squirrels, exploring Trader Joe’s, shopping for coffee, and hanging out with friends on Xbox Live.
