Jerry Poling, BS, is the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Chair for the Eli Lilly and Company Corporate site. In addition, Mr. Poling serves as the Global Animal Welfare Officer for Eli Lilly. Mr. Poling has served as the IACUC Administrator for the corporate site since 2008 and manages the review and approval process for animal care and use protocols, conducts pre-reviews of all submitted animal care and use protocols, communicates with external agencies, and assists researchers with training and completion their animal care and use protocols. Mr. Poling facilitates all of the Indianapolis IACUC functions including Semi-annual Program Reviews, Semi-Annual Facility Inspections, and yearly IACUC retreats.
Mr. Poling serves as the co-chair of Lilly’s Global Animal Welfare Board; charged with looking for ways to maximize 3R’s efforts globally, reduce regulatory burden, and promote animal welfare. Mr. Poling attends national and regional IACUC conferences to stay current in the ever-changing animal welfare climate. Mr. Poling serves as a member of the IOC Consortium, IQ3R’s, and 3RsC.
Mr. Poling received his bachelor’s degree in business management from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2006. Prior to his role as IACUC Chair, Mr. Poling served as a member of the veterinary resources team and agricultural animal technician at Elanco.
