Kathryn is a Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA) and has a BS in Animal Science from the University of California Davis. She previously worked as a Breeding Coordinator at a Contract Research Organization in San Diego, California where she managed a breeding colony of Dutch Belted rabbits before joining the IACUC Office at the University of Texas Southwestern in 2015. She is currently the Assistant Director of IACUC & SCRO at UT Southwestern.
In addition to her institutional responsibilities, Kathryn serves as the TBAALAS Metro Coordinator for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She stays engaged with the IACUC community and has spoken at PRIM&R, AALAS, NCURA, and SRAI conferences on various IACUC topics. In 2016 she was recognized with a Presenter Award at the annual TBAALAS meeting for her work with early pregnancy determination via ultrasonography in rabbits. Kathryn's article "Celebrating Occupational Health and Safety" published in 2020 was the inaugural piece for Lab Animal Professional (LAS Pro) magazine’s reoccurring column "Inside the IACUC". She has since contributed additional articles for this column on IACUC operation and management topics. She was most recently invited by PRIM&R to participate as a guest speaker for the 2023 "CPIA Exam Information Session" to inspire young professionals to achieve their CPIA certification.
