Dr. Jimmy Taylor is an Assistant Director of the USDA, Wildlife Services, National Wildlife Research Center and is stationed at their headquarters in Fort Collins, Colorado. He provides leadership, guidance, and supervision to 9 supervisory research project leaders, including research in the areas of aquaculture protection, avian safety and risk management, chronic wasting disease, feral swine, food safety and wildlife pathogens, predator ecology, rabies, rodent management, and wildlife diseases. The research he oversees is conducted at the human-wildlife interface and focuses primarily on defining impacts and developing strategies to reduce conflicts, and the research often includes overabundant species and species of concern. He serves as a member of the NWRC management team and assists the NWRC Director in the formulation, administration and monitoring of goals, policies and strategic plans of APHIS programs, often taking the lead on special projects. He provides technical advice within the agency with respect to legislation or litigation having a bearing on wildlife research; and he oversees the preparation of special NWRC scientific reports and manuscripts for publication and dissemination within Wildlife Services, other wildlife organizations, and other public and private institutions. He has an undergraduate degree in forestry and wildlife management, a master’s degree in wildlife science, and Ph.D. in forest resources with an emphasis in wildlife ecology from Mississippi State University. Dr. Taylor holds courtesy faculty appointments at Oregon State University and Mississippi State University, and previously Portland State University.
