Mark is a partner at Ropes & Gray and represents major research universities, academic medical centers and other research institutions in matters related to human and animal research, stem cell and genomic research, research grants, research misconduct, and international research. Mark formerly served as the executive vice-president of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and at Harvard as the Senior Associate Provost and the University’s Senior Research Officer. At Harvard, he started and directed Harvard’s HIV/AIDS treatment programs in Nigeria, Tanzania and Botswana and, during a time of regulatory crisis, was the acting director of the Harvard Primate Center. With Dr. Barbara Bierer, he co-founded and co-directs the Multi-Regional Clinical Trials Center of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard. Mark has held senior appointed positions in the New York City and State departments of health and since 2014 has taught health care law and the law of biomedical research at Yale Law School.
