Michelle L. McGowan is a Professor of Biomedical Ethics in the Biomedical Ethics Research Program and the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences at Mayo Clinic and a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at University of Cincinnati. Dr. McGowan has served as an ethics consultant for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine, and the National Society of Genetic Counselors. Dr. McGowan is an empirical bioethicist whose research focuses on the gendered ethical and social implications of reproductive technologies and policies. She currently leads the Ohio Policy Evaluation Network’s Abortion Clinic Closure and Care Churn project within which she has conducted studies on healthcare providers’ and abortion seekers’ experiences of state-level abortion policies.
