Jennifer N. Davis, DVM, DACLAM, CPIA is the Director of Animal Welfare Programs and Operations, Office of Animal Welfare at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Davis received her DVM from the University of Georgia and went on to complete a small animal internship at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. Following 16 years working in small-animal veterinary practice, Dr. Davis completed her residency training in Laboratory Animal Medicine at Emory University and the Yerkes National Primate Research Center in 2013 and became board-certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) in 2014. Dr. Davis also spent 3 years in cardiovascular biomedical research using murine and porcine animal models at the Medical University of South Carolina and at Emory. Dr. Davis joined Penn in 2013 as the Compliance Veterinarian for the Office of Animal Welfare and was intimately involved in the development and maintenance of the regulatory-compliance component of Penn’s animal research program, through the establishment of the post-approval monitoring program. She was promoted in 2022 to her current position but continues to regularly partner with members of the research community to help resolve problems to maintain compliance with federal mandates and institutional guidelines. Dr. Davis firmly believes that establishing strong working relationships, along with regular effective communication, is key to a successful animal care and use program. Dr. Davis is also currently working on her Master of Science degree in animal welfare and behavior at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.
