Dr Leslie Retnam, Senior Associate Director with the IACUC Office at the National University of Singapore, graduated with B Vet Sc from University of Queensland (Australia), obtained Master in Laboratory Animal Science (MLAS) from Hahnemann University (Philadelphia) and is certified as Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA).
Began his career as companion animal veterinarian in Singapore and then joined National University of Singapore (NUS) as Singapore’s first laboratory animal veterinarian. Then purused and obtained Masters in Laboratory Animal Science (MLAS) at Hahnemann University, Pennsylvania, USA. Returned to NUS and eventually become Acting Director, Laboratory Animal Centre. Moved to Biological Resource Centre, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), and appointed Director for Veterinary Services. Then returned to NUS as Senior Associate Director, IACUC Office, Office of the Deputy President (Research and Technology). Obtained Certified Professional in IACUC Administration recognition in 2021.
Appointed to AAALAC-International as Ad Hoc site visitor, and was elected as Council Member with the Pacific Rim Section in 2009. Was further elected as Section Leader of the Pacific Rim Section for 4 years, and as Assistant Section Leader for 2 years. Currently Council Member Emeritus. Member of: Singapore’s National Advisory Committee on Laboratory Animal Research (Chair, Subcommittee on Training); Singapore’s Accreditation Council (Chair, Council Committee on Laboratories); Ministry of Health’s Advisory Committee on Restricted Research; Animal and Veterinary Services Veterinary Professions Committee and Non-permanent member of Wildlife Reserves Singapore animal welfare and ethics committee. Former President of Singapore Veterinary Association and Singapore Association for Laboratory Animal Science.
