Dr. Isabela Dias Freedman, Ph.D., CPIA: I have a Ph.D. in Genetics, a master’s in Animal Breeding, and Doctor in Veterinary Medicine all from “Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais - UFMG,” in Brazil. I received CPIA certification in 2021. I started my career as Equine Veterinarian in Brazil where I practiced for 10 years. During this time, I did my master’s in Animal Breeding, taught Animals genetics and animal Breeding in a Private Veterinary School in Brazil and I did a Ph.D. in Genetics, focusing on Wildlife Genetics and Conservation. Once finished my Ph.D. I came to the USA, to the American Museum of Natural History in NYC for a post-doctorate in Wildlife Genetics and Conservation, working with wild cats and marsupials. Following, I went to the Public Health Research Institute, Rutgers University in NJ, where I worked with Rabbit Models for Tuberculosis Research in the ABSL3 facility, and I was an IACUC Member. After that I worked as Compliance Coordinator for the IACUC Office at Columbia University in NYC for 3 years, performing compliance (post-approval) monitoring. Currently, I am a Compliance Administrator for IACUC Office at Rutgers University since Feb 2022, where I also perform compliance (post-approval) monitoring. Past and current hobbies: Horseback riding (Show jump competition), Dog rescue, bird watching, reading historic novels. Volunteer: Jewish Relief Agency (JRA), feeding people in need.
