Kristina Borror is Director, Policy and Education for the Office of Research Oversight at the Veterans Health Administration, where she leads the Policy and Education Workgroup. This Workgroup provides three main functions: (1) overseeing the Research Compliance Officer (RCO) program; (2) reviewing, contributing to, coordinating, and publishing policies/guidance affecting ORO’s operations; and (3) reviewing and providing oversight of VA facility submissions of Federalwide Assurances (FWAs) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) registrations, and VA facility development of memoranda of understanding (MOU) for the use of IRBs. Prior to coming to the VA she was Director of Compliance Oversight at the Office for Human Research Protections, OHRP within HHS. While at OHRP she oversaw the for-cause and not-for-cause evaluations of human subjects protections at institutions involved in HHS-supported research, as well as the processing of reports of incidents from such institutions. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship with the National Cancer Institute conducting basic cancer research. She has a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh.
