Education, research tools, and context have changed in important ways, and this impacts research opportunities, benefits, and risks. This session will review implications and issues in implementation of the Common Rule at the US Department of Education. Discussion encouraged.
Learning Objectives:
Review the implications of the changes for determinations of the Common Rule coverage of studies and management of risks (i.e., implications for identification of “normal” “educational practice”, “readily ascertainable” data, and other exemptions)
Learn the Department’s process for identification, review, and clearance of studies, particularly those in educational settings
Consider information on other Federal statutes and regulations that impact the conduct of education research (including in educational settings)
